Writing a Résumé

Anyone else have trouble selling themselves on a résumé? Personally, I hate it. Talking myself up on paper (or in person) has never been a strong point in my personality. I work hard. My past and current employers are aware of that- but what about potential employers? How can they possible know that I'm such a hard worker?

Is it proper to write on my résumé "hard worker." Who takes that seriously? Apparently, from all of the advice on résumés, we should use key words like "motivated" and "determined." Maybe it's time to break out of the box and write something that's downright blunt and honest.

Uh-uh-em.

Dear potential employer,

I am one hardworking son of a bitch. My résumé might not paint a true picture of who I am but, believe me, I work until the job is done right. Even though I am not the "most qualified" on paper, I learn quickly and retain what I have learned to work in an ever more efficient manner on a daily basis. I care about the work I am involved with and the finished product. I still have pride. Unlike the trend in America today, I believe that America can and will always be better than anyone at creating and producing the finest goods in the world. I will be better than anyone else at what I do- that is my nature. I will not settle for second-best at my job. I think through what I am doing and constantly look for ways of improvement. A chance. All I am asking for is a chance to show you what I am capable of.
